You are invited!

6/29/15

Continuing Watercolor (January and February 2015)

I added more detail, value, texture, and color to finish this.  I used watercolor and gouache.

NCBG Gouache (June 2014)

I have added details and values and texture.

6/28/15

Aqueous Acrylics (April 2013)

Fluid and High Flow acrylic on masonite prepped with Kilz 2 primer and then Absorbent Ground.  I have added more detail and values.

6/26/15

NCBG Gouache (2012)

Gouache on mixed media paper.

BAL Mixed Media (June 2015)

Acrylic painting, Liquitex clear gesso, colored pencil on top.  I have added more colored pencil working color into the dark areas, fixing issues, and working on values.

Ink wash, pen & ink, watercolor, white gouache, and colored pencil (If I used acrylic in place of watercolor I would put Liquitex Clear Gesso or another ground before the colored pencil and the white acrylic would replace the white gesso).  Remember I worked in the small areas due to a time constraint.  If this was not a demo I would have completed each layer over the entire piece.  I am now working with colored pencil as my final layer over the subject and background.

Caulk, acrylic paint, Liquitex Clear Gesso, colored pencil.  I started working the colored pencil over the texture, mostly useing the side of the pencil.  I will work on values and adding color as well as fixing any issues.

Alcohol ink on Yupo, Liquitex Clear Gesso, Colored pencil.  I started to add the colored pencil, adding values, color, and texture.

Caulk painting with acrylic.  I worked on the values, color and composition a bit more.

I worked on the composition (with your help and suggestions and searches for animals, beaks, etc...).  It is improving but still needs some work.

6/24/15

Colored Pencil Exploration (May and June 2015)

I have worked on the water some (it still needs work) and have worked on the bottom of his body near the water and his wing.  I added white with the Stabilo pencil into the beak and chest area.  The pelican needs only a little more work.  The water will require some time to bring to the level of the bird.

This is the start of a second man.  I started with the white, added the light peach, and worked in the browns (the darker brown and the red brown)

I have fixed some of the issues and worked more on the hair, the cap, his beard, and started on the shirt.  I also started to smudge some black in the background for those of us who dirty up our paper...  He still needs wuite a bit of refining, more values (a lot more) and some details.

6/18/15

BAL Mixed Media (May and June 2015)

This has the acrylic under painting with the clear gesso on top.  I have started working with colored pencil, especially on the top left jug and in the areas around it as well as below the table.

I used white gouache for highlights (if using acrylic use white acrylic).  I then added a dark purple to the background allowing the yellow to show through in some areas.

I added some more darks and am continuing to refine this leaf with the 4 colors (red, yellow, blue, white).

I have gotten the base down and have barely begun refining and adding detail using the 4 colors (red, yellow, blue, white).

This is the caulk painting with a layer of acrylic and on top of that the clear gesso (so I can add colored pencil next).

Exploring Abstraction (May and June 2015)

I have added a few more skins.  This will need a lot more composition work through either adding more skins or painting.

I wet and painted this caulk painting.  Parts of it will need to be glued (since it was not pressed into the paper).

I continued work on the composition.

I added more traced tape roll shapes and painted them.  It's coming along and is interesting.

Mono print.  This was made using plexi glass.  I put paint on plexi and pressed the paper over the paint, moving it a bit to make textures (you can see through to see the textures you are making).

Ripped mtape painting.  I used ripped pieces of tape to create paint resisted textured areas on the painting.

I added another layer of rubber cement and paint and then removed the rubber cement.

Tape painting.  I used tape to make lines and shapes on the painting.

I did a little more pen work on this painting.

Colored Pencil Exploration (May and June 2015)

Colored pencil on tinted and sanded pastel paper (we used Colourfix).  I started with white and put in the light areas and the highlights.  I then used the light peach and added the skin tones.  I used a red brown and a brown for the shadows.  BTW, the eyes and mouth and the ear have issues (the eyes are turned differently and the mouth is to the left too far, the ear is too fat at the top - all need fixing).  I drew some of the lines in the scarf with white.  Then I shaded the light areas with white and the dark with blue (careful with the blue).  I then did red over the entire thing and added some yellow to warm it.  The ponytail I just put the colors underneath, need to add the hairs.  I started blocking in the clothes.  It has more work of course.

Colored pencil over a melted colored pencil background.  I worked on the feathers on the back layering some color and values.

6/12/15

BAL Mixed Media (June 2015)I added

This is the extra paint painting.  I poured the little bit of acrylic left onto the paper, sprayed it, and moved it around.

Acrylic (could also use watercolor).  I mixed a brown and started on the values painting the shadows and used white to start the highlights.  I added more green and orange in the dark areas.

Acrylic with Liquitex Clear Gesso and the start of colored pencil on top.  This is an example from another class.  It is not done, but getting close.

Pen & Ink.  I added yellow watercolor (could also use acrylic) to the background and used blues and greens for the berries and leaves.

Added a little more pencil in the shadow areas.  This now needs refining (next class).

First I used white, then blue, and last I added yellow.  Next is the red (next class).

This is a caulk tree on mixed media paper.

Exploring Abstraction (May and June 2015)

Acrylic skin painting.  The skins have been attached to the paper.  You can use things like matte medium or polymer medium to attach the skins to paper, canvas, a painting, etc.

Caulk painting with a coat of acrylic paint followed by a coat of Liquitex Clear Gesso.  After it has dried for a day I started applying some colored pencil (yellow, blue, and white).

Caulk painting with a coat of Liquitex Clear Gesso.  After it has dried for a day I started applying some colored pencil (blue).  I used the side of the pencil so the pencil was picked up on the tips of the texture.

Caulk painting - I have been working on this working towards a finished piece.

I traced the objects on one of the paintings and started adding the "tape" shapes.

Weaving.  This is a full weaving where 2 paintings are cut into strips and weaved together.  This can be done keeping the 2 paintings in order which is interesting for representational paintings.  This is a good use for those paintings that are not going well or are boring.

Weaving - this is weaving used on parts of a painting.  This can be used in interesting ways on works in progress.

Rubber Cement resist texture painting.  I have done a little more to work on the composition and movement.
