5/29/11

This is the colored pencil flower on white paper.  I did the magenta value study and added true blue and sunburst yellow to the petals.  I lifted with the adhesive putty and darkened with more magenta and true blue to further accentuate the values.  I worked more on the leaves starting with a value study using olive green.  Then I added dark green, sunburst yellow and magenta.  I lifted with the adhesive putty as needed and darkened with the dark green, or olive green as needed (I did use a little true blue as well).  The sunburst yellow is used as a glaze on both the petals and leaves.
The colored pencil flower on dark paper.  I continued on the petals as before.  I used olive green, sunburst yellow, dark green, true blue, magenta, and some white on the leaves on top of the value study.

5/27/11

Colored pencil flower on dark paper.  I mostly finished the value study with the light peach and white.  I continued adding magenta, true blue, and sunburst yellow to the petals.  I added a little olive green to the leaf so far.

5/25/11

Watercolor flower after class.  I added detail to the leaves by scrubbing out the middle vein and glazing with new gamboge.  I used cobalt blue and sap green to add dark to the leaves.  I glazed in more new gamboge and a little rose/new gamboge mixture on the leaves.  I adjusted some of the values on the petals and glazed more cobalt and new gamboge onto the petals.  The background was wet (beyond where the color is) and I added splotches of sap, rose, cobalt new gamboge and then held it vertical and sprayed it so the colors would move and gently blend.  I can tone it down later if needed.
Watercolor flower before class.
Acrylic flower as it looked after class.   I used white and the petal color I had mixed to continue adjusting the value study.   I added glazes of blue and yellow to the flower petals and leaf.  Finish the value study before glazing.
Acrylic flower before class.
Colored pencil flower on dark paper.  I started adding color to the value study (finish your value study first before adding color).  I started adding magenta, sunburst yellow and true blue plus more white on top in the light areas.
Colored pencil flower on dark paper.  This is mostly light peach with the use of white in the very lightest areas.  This was  before class.
Colored pencil flower on white paper after class.  I used magenta to do a value study (finish that first before adding the other colors).   I then used a sunburst yellow and true blue to add some 'glazes' to the magenta.  I used olive green on the leaf and did a value study.  I added 'glazes' of the sunburst yellow, true blue, and a little magenta to the leaf.

5/18/11

Watercolor flower.  I glazed some new gamboge and some cobalt blue onto some areas of the petals that were already finished.  Glaze AFTER getting the values established with one color on all of your petals.  For the leaf I used sap green to lay in some values (the leaf was damp first) and floated in some of the petal color as well as a little aureolin yellow and a tiny bit of cobalt while it was still damp.  The details will be added later..
Acrylic flower.  I demonstrated more petals with the color I mixed.  I started the leaf with a warm green color.  We will get all of the values established before glazing more color onto the petals and leaves.  On the left side I demonstrated how to fix a loss of values for a few petals (using white).
The start of the colored pencil flower on black paper using a light peach pencil with white added in the very lightest areas  - this was started at home.

This is what it looked like after class.
The start of the colored pencil flower on white paper using a magenta pencil only - this was started at home.

Flower photo
Acrylic flower.  We are starting this in sections as a value study.  Concentrate on the washes and values.  The color is a mixture of mostly primary red, primary yellow, white, and matte medium mixed in a small container to a medium or medium dark value.
Watercolor flower.  We are starting this in sections as a value study.  Concentrate on the washes and values.  The color is a mixture of Permanent rose and aureolin (you can use alizarin or lemon yellow as well).
Colored pencil barn - still needs more values and a little detail, but getting close.

5/3/11

Watercolor - thei is the piece after class.  I worked on the front grass area and a little on the trees and barn.  I added some gouache as well.  I plan to work more on the barn.
Watercolor - This is before class - I worked on the trees a little since last week.
Acrylic  - this is what the piece looked like after class.  I added the tree limbs and branches, glazed the trees and barn, and started working on the front grass area.  The piece needs more value contrast.
Acrylic barn before class - changed the sky and treeline shape.
