| Colored pencil on maroon mat board. I used white, canary yellow, scarlet lake, crimson red, and black so far. I layered the white first then the yellow and then the red paying attention to values. After that I added the black and then dotted it with white and added some red as well. |

| Acrylic. This is the second layer to make a background for the butterfly. I wet the canvas panel and added in some greens and yellows. I used white for the spots, adding them when it was still wet so they would be soft. I added leaf outlines and stems. I also splattered white, yellow, and red paint. I will add the butterfly on top. |
