I have worked on adding more white and also added some green to start the leaves.  The white is almost done.

I have worked on the flower and leaves adding some shadows and a few more highlights and details.

Since i made the flower too dark and painted it rather messy, I made more work.  I used white to fix the issues of value and messy painting.  I will add some glue glazes in some areas and some darks as well as details.  Need to work on the leaves and branches.

Still working with the white.  Have used a little black to push a few things back.  Need to keep working with the white and then will use glazes of color and some darks as needed as well as details.

I used white to start reestablishing the values since i painted the pink too dark (and painted it rather messy for some reason).  I also added more white to the leaves.  I added a little blue to the petals.  I need to work on darks as well.  

I glazed yellow in the background and added more white to the mushrooms.  This needs quite a lot more work, barely started.

I worked on the white of course during class.  I used the white with little to no water for the very white areas.  I used the white with some water for areas with shadow (I let the black show through to make some of the shadows).  I can also add shadows as needed later.  I need to finish the white and then glaze some more color.

Sertoma Continuing Watercolor (October, November, December 2015)

I used a scrubber to add white to the land in the back, behind the trees.

I removed the masking and started directly painting the fish.  First I added yellow to the 3 main fish. I added a red orange to the 2 fish.  I used a wet brush all over the water areas to soften the water masking marks.  I let that all dry.  Then I painted on one fish adding more yellow, some orange, and a dark.  I made some water type lines on the fish as well.  I also added some purple to some of the fins and tails.  I can demonstrate this again on another fish next class. 

I transferred the drawing, left some of the information out as it is rather busy.  I then went over some of the lines with a #2 pencil (to make sure they would stay).  I mixed a green, a red, and a yellow brown.  I also used cerulean.  I masked the highlights on the red seeds.  I painted the red seeds.  I wet the paper (around the berries) and dropped color in, paying attention to the photo (loosely).  i used a paper towel to remove paint from the highlights and lighter areas in the photo.

Plexiglas, Daniel Smith transparent watercolor ground and watercolor on one side, Liquitex clear gesso and colored pencil on the other side. I worked more on the skin.  Need to begin the hair...

Yupo (white) with a watercolor wax paper texture. Liquitex clear gesso applied very gently (the watercolor smeared a little bit).  Now I can work with colored pencil on top or paint on top and the underneath will stay as it is.

Sprayed this with Krylon Workable Fixative (can use any brand).  Applied Liquitex clear gesso not gently and only a tiny bit of the color seemed to move.  Now I can work with colored pencil on top or paint on top and the underneath will stay as it is.

Sprayed this with Krylon Matte Finish (would not use this to spray a finished piece, it sometimes clouds up...).  Applied Liquitex clear gesso not gently and no color seemed to move.  Now I can work with colored pencil on top or paint on top and the underneath will stay as it is.

I painted white and dark green on the leaves to add value.  I did a little more white on the flower before painting it pink.  Next I need to reestablish the values on the flowers and to continue working on values and details over the entire piece.

I started with white on the mushroom.  I mixed a dark green for the background (black, yellow, and a little red).  I will continue with this for the values and begin adding details as well.

I added more rubber cement, let it dry, and painted red.

I have used rubber cement to make grass texture.  Masking fluid could be used as well.  This needs more layers (which will make it easier to see as well).

I started with white, painting the values (various values of white from opaque to transparent).  I started glazing some color.

All of these pieces need quite a bit more work.

Remember that I do demonstrations in sections without finishing each section.  But when I work I actually would finish before moving on to the next part.  For example - if painting white first I would finish the white before moving on to glaze color.  In the demo I do a section of white and then move on to glazing.

I did this at home before class.  I will demonstrate further on this in class next week.  The background was made with plastic wrap.  I wet the paper, dropped in the color, and put plastic wrap on it scrunching it until I liked the texture.  After it was dry I removed the wrap and glazed it with yellow.  When dry I transferred the drawing with graphite paper.  I then painted the leaves green (so I could see then better).  I used white to start painting the values on the flower. 

I did this before class and plan to demonstrate on it next class.  The background was blue made with a wet in wet technique.  After it dried I then glazed with yellow.  After that dried I then splattered white.  When it was dry I transferred the drawing using white transfer paper.  I have not painted any details yet.

This is a sample from another class.  Acrylic, bubble wrap texture, painted the petals with white first and then the yellow and red.  Left the background showing in the middle.  This is not done.

This is a sample from another class.  This is gouache, but I would do the exact same with acrylic.  the background is wet in wet and salt texture.  I then painted the cat white, in quite a few layers.  The beginning layers did not have fur texture, that was added in later layers.  I then added details, values, and other colors.  This is not complete, close, but it has a bit more to go.

Rubber cement texture done in another class.  This one has two layers.

The warm.cool color wheel.  Remember this is scanned, so some of the colors may not appear as they are in reality.  For instance, the bottom 2 circles - the one marked PB + NRL is black.  The one marked PB + RMQ is a dark purple.

Bubble wrap texture.  Acrylic on a canvas panel.  I wet the panel, dropped in the blue color and moved it around as needed, and laid the bubble wrap on the panel.  I usually lay something on top to hold it down, but did not in this case (therefore the uneven texture which I quite like). Then leave it to dry.

Plastic wrap texture.  Acrylic on cheap pad watercolor paper.  I wet the paper, dropped in the color and moved it around as needed, and laid the plastic wrap on moving it around and scrunching it until I get a texture I like.  Then leave it to dry.

Wax paper texture.  Acrylic on cheap watercolor paper.  I wet the paper, dropped in the color. crumpled the wax paper, laid it one top, and weighed it down.  Then let it dry.

Salt texture.  Acrylic on cheap watercolor paper.  I wet the paper, dropped in the color, and when the paper was shiny, but not a puddle, I sprinkled salt.  I sprinkled the salt in small increments as the paper in that area was the correct 'wetness'.   I kept adding salt in areas that were ready until there was enough.  If you put the salt on when the paper is too wet it starts to dissolve, sticks to the paper (you can scrape it off) and creates a different sort of texture.  If you put the salt on too late it just won't do anything.  I used two sizes of salt, a larger sea salt and fine salt.

Bubble wrap texture.  Acrylic on cheap watercolor paper.  I wet the paper, dropped in color, and placed the bubble wrap on top.  Then let it dry.  This is a different, smaller bubble wrap than the other one.

Wet in wet.  Acrylic on cheap watercolor paper.  I wet the paper and dropped in color.  This one needs another layer or two of color.

Wet in wet.  Acrylic on cheap watercolor paper.  I wet the paper and used leftover paint to create a background.  This is a good use of your leftover paint after a painting session.

Rubber Cement texture, step 1.  Acrylic on cheap watercolor paper.  I dribbled rubber cement on dry, white paper and used the brush from the bottle to make brush marks.  This well act as a resist.  After it was dry I painted a bright yellow.  This is step 1 in a 3-5 step process.

I briefly demonstrated the beginning of adding the white when starting on a local color project.

Continuing Watercolor (October, November, December 2015)

I have lifted and moved more areas.  There is some refining to do, but this is getting close.

I have added some darks in the trees and on the horse.  I have added some grass areas.

Rubber cement resist texture, step 1, watercolor.  Can be done with acrylic and gouache as well.

Rubber cement resist texture, step 3, watercolor.  This is after the 3rd pass of rubber cement and paint.  Here I decide to add more or remove the rubber cement.

I have added more colored pencil to this watercolor under painting (the surface is Stonehenge paper).  

The Transparent Watercolor Ground and Clear Gesso on plexi (one on each side) with watercolor on one side and colored pencil on the other.  I have added the watercolor to the back and added another layer of shading to the skin.  I work gently with the pencil and mostly on the side.

This is the same process from another class.  Both need more work of course.

This is an example of our next project.  We will do a different subject matter.  We will do alcohol inks on translucent yupo and then add a clear gesso (Liquitex) and work in colored pencil on top.

This is a similar example, just not as far along as the first.
